15th birthday! Do you still remember how you spent your 15th birthday? Some of you might, but we’re pretty sure it’s not as epic as Bella as the dog’s ice cream birthday bash. Bella’s owners did not just throw her a birthday bash because she has been a darling furkid, but also because she lived well beyond her life expectancy.
According to Pet MD, a dog’s lifespan fell in between 8 to 11 years. Furthermore, this life expectancy is also affected by numerous factors including dog breed, the health of the dog, and a lot more.
For mixed breed dogs, owners can use an individual’s weight to help determine how long he or she would be expected to live. In general, small dogs enjoy longer lives than do their larger counterparts. A recent analysis of veterinary records revealed that dogs under 20 pounds had an average lifespan of 11 years while those over 90 pounds typically lived for only 8 years. Medium and large dogs fell in the middle at around 11 years. (State of Pet Health 2013 Report, Banfield Pet Hospital).
Bella has already been going through changes that all senior dogs experience such as hair loss, bad eyesight, and reduced energy and physical activities, but still, this did not stop her to live her pawsome life.
Present in her birthday was her doggy family and friends. Everyone had an adorable birthday hat and a delicious ice cream.
